DEVINE Martinez

Level of Complexity: Home Bartender Friendly

This is a beautfully layered spirit forward cocktail.  As the Dutch courage is barrel aged in the ancient grains whisky barrels you get the best of both worlds, the beautiful botanicals of wormwood, mugwort and juniper coming from the Genever and also the wonderful complexity  and spice from the ancient grains whisky.

What is Bonal? Essentially, it's a fortified aperitif wine infused with yellow gentian and herbs from the Grande Chartreuse mountains.  It's great on ice, in a Manhattan or Negroni and of course, a Martinez.

For a purely BC take on this cocktail, substitute the Bonal for Esquimalt Wine's Sweet Rosso Vermouth.

Ingredients

  • 1.25oz DEVINE Dutch Courage Barrel-Aged Genever
  • 1oz Bonal (or sub Esquimalt Wine's Rosso Vermouth)
  • 0.25oz Okanagan Spirits Maraschino Liqueur
  • 2 dash angostura bitters
  • Orange peel

Method

Add everything except orange peel to a mixing glass and stir on ice until chilled and diluted.

Strain into a chilled coupe glass and express orange oils. Garnish with orange and enjoy!
